When photographing a wedding or a set of
portraits my aim is to provide a range of photographs that reflect your
wishes. This can be a mix of formal, informal, creative and/or reportage
style photographs. My relevant experience started as a model in front of camera and
extended later as a
photographer. This dual background and my creative eye, enable me to help you
to get the best photographs. Together we capture both carefully posed but
relaxed compositions as well as those that arise spontaneously.
While a photographer needs to adapt to the location and weather
(whether taking portraits on locations or photographing weddings
or social events) I always seek to make most use of natural light.
My style is flexible and I seek to customise my
cover to your wishes. Much of my work is at a location of the client's
choosing. For tutorials the content of each session is tailored to your
needs and progression.
Good photography needs professional
processing and printing. I work with digital photography and also offer both colour and black and white
film and select my laboratories to meet the needs of the situation.
Most albums are custom built to your order.
With my main practice in the UK - Surrey, London and the
Home Counties, I carry
out most of my assignments at your home, office or location suitable to
you, in the region and occasionally the West
Country. I am also happy to travel to larger assignments outside those
areas. To arrange to review my portfolio and to discuss the cover for your
wedding, or portraits or social events; or to enquire after
photography tutorials please ring me, 9am to 9pm seven
days a week on +44 (0) 845 644 7030. For E-mail see Contact Details.
I look forward to discussing with you
the photography or photographic tuition that you seek.

Majken Kruse Wedding Photographer - Press Comment
Reviews of Majken's work by the press include the
following article:
| Abstract: An article from the Western Daily Press - Ruth
Wood
Majken Kruse Wedding Photographer |
BRIDES bored with conventional “say
cheese” wedding pictures are turning to top photographer Majken Kruse for a
touch of magazine-style glamour, writes Ruth Wood.
A WHIRL of confetti showers the happy couple as they walk hand in hand into the
glorious sunshine. It is a magical,
unforgettable day. Only the wedding photographer appears stressed as he tries to
shepherd 101 guests into a dignified pose on the church steps.
When everyone has been squeezed into place, he utters those immortal
words and the grinning guests repeat through clenched teeth: “CHEESE!”
Two weeks later the
photographs arrive in the post. The bride looks radiant, of course, but
the groom is squinting at the sun and the best man is masked by a feather
sprouting from a mother-in-law’s hat. One of the bridesmaids has disappeared
up the bride’s gown and the pageboy is picking his nose.
If this sounds familiar
then you obviously didn’t book photographer Majken Kruse for your big day.
Majken, who lives in
Wells **,
Somerset
, is the West Country’s best wedding photographer according
to the prestigious British Institute of Professional Photographers.
When she scooped the title this year, it was the latest in a string of
regional and national awards, books and magazine articles to add to her name.
[ ** Majken has since moved her main base to Esher on the Surrey
- London
borders ]
Although Majken’s
wedding photos are mostly for private clients, they wouldn’t look out of place
in any number of glossy bridal magazines. ”A
bride wants to feel like a model on her wedding day,” said Majken, who began
her own career as a model. “This is her chance to look the best she has ever
looked in her life. I think more and more brides-to-be are looking at the glossy
magazines and the glamorous celebrity wedding pictures for their inspiration.”
“They don’t just want the conventional wedding album where the photographer
meets the party at the church, goes snap, snap, snap, and ends up with these
boring formulaic shots where everyone looks stiff, self-conscious and
unnatural.”
The last word you could
use to describe Majken’s technique is ‘formulaic’.
”I like to do something different each time, to be more creative and
imaginative,” she said.
Some of the prints are
pure sepia-coloured nostalgia and classic black-and-white Marilyn Monroe
glamour. Others relish in the vibrancy of crimson velvet, midnight blue satin,
bridal white through a window reflecting golden sunlight and summer leaves.
Majken’s pictures capture the romance of a wedding, particularly the
special bond that drew two people together long before they entered the church
or registry office. A couple shares a tender embrace behind the opaque privacy
of a bridal veil, a laughing bride stoops to rub noses with her beau who sits on
a garden wall reaching up to touch her cheek. A groom leans against a tree in a
park watching his beautiful bride approach, her skirts swirling around her.
”Some
photographers pay all the attention to the bride,” said Majken. “It’s
important to me that the groom looks great too, that he looks relaxed. It’s
the same with group shots; if people feel happy and natural they immediately
look better.”
Originally from
Denmark
, Majken lived in
Canada
and
London
before she moved to Somerset seven years ago with her son
Keanan, now 16. As well as being a
Craftsman of the Guild of Wedding Photographers, she is an Associate of both the
British Institute of Professional Photographers and the Royal Photographic
Society. Earlier in her
career as a photojournalist, she photographed such stars as David Bowie, Michael
Keaton, Margaret Thatcher and George Bush senior.
Today Majken specialises in weddings, social events and PR material.
“It’s ironic really
because my university careers advisory test showed that I should be a
photographer or a journalist,” she said. “But I ignored the advice and
became a model instead. For many years photography was just a hobby until my
friends started to say ‘You know what? You’re pretty good at this.’
I’ve never looked back.”
